The total cost of a workplace accident comprises both an immediately apparent component and a less visible—yet equally significant—portion. The study in question analyzes the key economic variables that determine this cost, distinguishing between cases involving INAIL-insured workers, uninsured workers, and situations linked to undeclared work. The analysis then extends to the broader concept of the social cost of workplace accidents, highlighting how prevention strategies can substantially contribute to reducing it. An objective indicator of the phenomenon's significance is the ratio between the total cost of accidents and the country's Gross Domestic Product. The resulting picture offers encouraging findings while simultaneously opening up interesting avenues for comparison and further study, which can help guide increasingly targeted and effective policies and mitigation measures.
