Asbestos risk management in buildings: roles and operational guidelines

Asbestos risk management in buildings: roles and operational guidelines

OCCUPATIONAL HEALT AND SAFETY SEMINARY REFRESHER HOURS 81/08
WEDNESDAY 16 SEPTEMBER 2026
14:00 - 15:30

INAIL SEMINAR ROOM

PAV. A – LANE A1

Edited by: INAIL

More than 30 years after the ban on asbestos use, millions of tons of asbestos-containing materials (ACMs) are still estimated to be present today. Beyond roofing, asbestos remains in various other components such as flue pipes, suspended ceilings, insulation panels, gaskets, flooring, and pipe and boiler insulation—within both public and private buildings.
Managing asbestos risk involves multiple parties, each with specific duties depending on whether the setting is residential or a workplace. These roles are defined by current legislation and technical standards (specifically involving the property owner or manager, the employer, the head of the prevention and protection service, the asbestos risk manager, and the person responsible for the asbestos inventory).
This situation requires a systematic, collaborative approach that is often difficult to manage due to inherent complexities and a lack of necessary expertise among those responsible for asbestos management in buildings. The seminar will provide practical guidance to those responsible for managing the risk posed by ACMs in buildings, addressing the various roles and responsibilities—topics also covered in a recent INAIL publication.
