The evolution of the world of work, increasing regulatory complexity, and the integration of management systems are profoundly transforming the role of HSE professionals within organizations.
The new UNI 11720:2025 represents an important benchmark for defining the skills, responsibilities, and professional requirements of HSE Managers and HSE Specialists, helping to strengthen the strategic value of prevention in contemporary organizational contexts.
The presentation will analyze the evolution of the HSE role from a predominantly technical-operational role to a transversal and managerial function, capable of integrating health, safety, the environment, compliance, sustainability,
and organizational factors.
The following will be explored:
• the framework of skills and knowledge required by UNI 11720:2025;
• the differences between the profiles of HSE professionals;
• the role of soft skills and leadership in safety management;
• the integration of HSE, governance, and ESG sustainability;
• the new challenges related to digitalization, organizational well-being, and a culture of prevention;
• the future prospects of certified HSE professions in highly complex contexts.
Through practical examples, case studies, and operational reflections, this paper will offer a modern interpretation of the HSE function, highlighting how enhancing professional skills today represents a key element for organizational resilience, compliance, and personal protection.
