Workshop on the correct maintenance of WATER SYSTEMS
The systems include: Sprinkler Systems - Pump Units - Water Mist – Foam

Overview of maintenance regulations and a summary of the main operations and their periodicity.

Automatic sprinkler systems
The presentation will introduce the standards UNI EN 12845 (sprinklers) and UNI 11292 (pumping rooms), the operating principles of the systems (wet, dry, pre-action, deluge) and their main components, including water supplies and pumping units.
The following are covered: taking charge, documentation, an inspection/maintenance programme involving practical tests on valves and throttles, resetting, local pump checks, and analysis of typical criticalities.
The demonstration session includes:
- practical commissioning exercises, valve resetting (wet/dry) and accelerators with alarm tests, inspections and surveillance;
- testing, repair or replacement of water supply components and pumping units, with functional tests in dedicated rooms;
- analysis of frequent faults and anomalies, wear parts, emergency equipment

Water mist systems (water mist)
The regulatory requirements for the maintenance of water spray systems in accordance with UNI EN 14972 1 are explained.
Reference is made to the phases of planned maintenance, overhaul, surveillance and periodic checks and interventions on components and instruments, along with the corresponding checklists and the required records.
During the demonstration session, practical tests are performed to visually and functionally inspect the components of water spray systems, including piping, valves, nozzles, hydraulic/pneumatic circuits, supplies, and pressurisation systems.
The presentation deals with the procedures for restoring or replacing using specific instruments, carrying out integrity checks on piping and wiring, and testing the control centre in relation to the emergency plan.

Foam systems
The normative requirements for the maintenance of foam extinguishing systems in accordance with EN 13565 2 are explained.
The session covers inspections, periodic inspections and routine extraordinary maintenance, as well as the use of checklists, records and verification of component conformity.
Inspection and maintenance of foam systems:
- Visual inspection and functional verification of foam system components.
- Practical procedures for repairing or replacing components using specific instruments.
- Verification of the integrity of wiring and interconnections (piping, cables and connections).
- Functional check of the control centre, including the activation and management of the system. This includes the verification of programming, (if applicable), and the functions relating to the emergency plan.
- Verification and restoration of any auxiliary functions.

The session will last 3 hours, divided as follows:
9:15 a.m. to 10:45 a.m.: 1.5 hours of theory in Sala Laboratori 2 (Workshop Room 2) by FISA.
11:00–12:30 a.m.: 1.5 hours of practical demonstration in the Area Dimostrazioni Laboratori Manutenzione (maintenance workshop demonstration area), 20–25 minutes for each topic, led by M.A.I.A. and FISA.
